We are pleased to share that from November 2025, Healing Touch Rehab will offer a dedicated Parkinson’s Clinic at our centre in Horsforth, Leeds. Led by Maria Liversidge, Clinical Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist, the clinic will provide tailored physiotherapy and movement-based rehabilitation for people living with Parkinson’s.

Whether newly diagnosed or further along in the journey, our aim is to offer meaningful support that helps clients move more easily, live more confidently, and feel more in control of daily life.

Why physiotherapy matters for people with Parkinson’s

Parkinson’s affects people in different ways, often making movement slower, stiffer or more effortful. Without the right support, these changes can impact independence and quality of life.

Physiotherapy is one of the most effective ways to manage Parkinson’s symptoms. Research and clinical experience both show that early, structured movement can help with:

  • Improving walking pattern and posture
  • Reducing falls and freezing episodes
  • Building strength and balance
  • Supporting confidence and day-to-day mobility

Even small improvements in mobility can make a big difference to daily life, and with the right programme, many people are able to stay active and independent for longer.

What to expect at the Parkinson’s ClinicEvery client who attends the clinic will begin with an individual assessment. From there, we design a personalised therapy plan based on the person’s needs, goals and stage of condition. Sessions are delivered by our neurological physiotherapy team using a combination of evidence-based approaches, including:

  • PWR! Moves
  • Cueing and rhythm strategies
  • Balance and strength exercises
  • Postural training and falls prevention

We also make use of our specialist equipment, including the LiteGait® system and GaitSens® technology, which provide a safe, supported environment for walking practice and gait correction.

Maria and the team are passionate about delivering therapy that is functional, motivating and achievable, with progress measured and reviewed regularly.

A clinic that supports families too

We understand that Parkinson’s affects not just individuals, but their families and carers too. When mobility improves, so does confidence, routine and wellbeing for everyone involved.

Our team is here to support the wider picture, which can mean offering advice on home routines, involving carers in sessions, or simply being there to listen and understand the journey.

Maria Liversidge, Clinical Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist and lead of the Parkinson’s clinic commented: “People often think they need to wait until their symptoms get worse before starting physio. But early treatment really does make a difference. Movement is medicine, and it’s never too late to begin.”
